Joyce Antoinette Chandler went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ Wednesday night of June 24th at her home. She has won the battle against congestive heart failure, renal failure, and sepsis. She breathes easily now – a graveside service will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway at 11 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Pastor Jeff Givens of the Outpost Church will officiate.
Joyce was born in 1935 to Ollie Floyd and Lottie Highnote, the youngest of six children - all predeceased her. She was an extremely accomplished ballroom dancer. Her best and finest accomplishment was raising her children. She taught with a good balance of love and discipline. She wanted us to have what we would need to be successful in whatever path we chose to follow within this world.
She was preceded in death by sons, Michael Anthony Chandler and baby Anthony Rooks; husbands, Ralph Chandler and Mel Hutcherson; parents, Ollie and Lottie Floyd; five siblings; daughter-in-law, Erica Chandler; one son-in-law, Kenny Freels; and grandson Jesse Allen Freels.
She is survived by daughters, Michelle Antoinette Chandler (faithful companions Beau and Pito); Micki Freels (Kenny-deceased); son, Bruce Hutcherson (Yvonne); 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to T.C. Crumpton, Robert Simmons, Pastor Jeff, Dottie Jean Gilley and a thousand thanks to Teresa Keith who was there for all and can fix anything - even a broken heart and many tears.
