I feel so lucky to have had Julia as a friend. She was a great listener, and she remembered to follow up on- going joys or concerns. She was quick with a smile or hug or the promise of prayer. We were blessed by her presence, and we will miss her. 

Julia Simmons will always be in my memory. 
I was always so happy when I got to have a chance to talk to her.  Having a chat with her
was very special for some reason.  I think it was because she was a very exceptional person. I will miss her!


Julia was a joy!!  She was as alert as a bird!  Always interested and interesting, no matter what the topic. I enjoyed her friendship and many opportunities to share meals and fellowship. Julia was one of the most delightful persons I’ve known.  I’m am thankful to God for bringing her to South Alabama Presbytery.  Rest in the Lord, dear friend. 

My fondest memory of Julia is working with her during Richard Mighell Camp at Baytreat. She taught the Bible lessons for several years. I could always count on her to volunteer and the children enjoyed listening to her tell stories of the Bible.  I will miss her visits to GSPC.

Julia was as genuine as her wit was sharp. Many Sunday lunches I shared with her and “the Golden Girls” and got to know her. She was supportive of GSPC and me personally as an Organist and musician. After she was unable to come to church, I was able to go play the piano in her home and she always wanted three hymns (as though we were in a church service) and at the end she would ask for an extended processional and then request Lift High the Cross. I will miss her stories and the friend she became to me. 

May she Rest In Peace and rise in glory. And may light perpetual shine on her.

Chandler Ogburn

Julia was an interesting person and I enjoyed getting to know her.  She had lived in Milledgeville GA previously, serving a church there, and when we bought a home there she told me a lot about the area. I remember her preaching a very inspiring sermon at a time of difficulty and was inspired by her. She will be missed.

I really got to know Julia during our Supper Club dinners when she asked me to come early to get the tables, linens, etc. set up...which I enjoyed so much.

Later, when she was having to stay home, I signed up to take her a meal...  she wanted a McDonald’s hamburger!

She was so sweet, a great listener and will be sorely missed by all.

My prayers go out to you and your family may the Lord keep you close

Julia was a dynamic minister and great lady, I remember how much fun we had serving on the Urban Ministries committee. I will miss her warm hugs and kind words I am so thankful I was in her life and she in mine.
