

Bryson was raised in Goldsboro, NC and served in the Air Force Reserves. When returning to North Carolina, Bryson stopped in Mobile and was amazed at the 70-degree Christmas Day weather. He vowed to return to escape the cold North Carolina winters. Upon his return to Mobile, he worked at Mike Ellison’s Garage in downtown Mobile. Bryson met Rebecca “Becky” Ellison while working for her father. They married June 18, 1966 and lived happily in Mobile for 58 years. Bryson spent the majority of his life working as a marine mechanic and captain at Middleton Marine and Dog River Marina. In addition, he worked many years for QMS as the vessel captain and plant maintenance supervisor.
Bryson’s life was focused on family, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rebecca Ellison Hollowell and his four sons and daughter: Ralph(Caroline), Randal Elwood Clyde(Lauren), Rodney Hollowell, Samuel Lewis Ryan(Taylor), and Alexis Michelle Hollowell. Bryson is survived by eight grandchildren and one older brother, George Edmond Hollowell. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brother James Elwood, and cousin James Rodney Hollowell.
Carolyn and Leon Hattenstein, Jennifer Johnston, Rodney Cooper, and Billy Whiting are devoted friends of the family.
There will be a memorial service Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service to follow at 11:00 AM. A brief graveside service at Serenity Gardens, 8691 Old Pascagoula Road in Theodore, AL, will follow the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family is creating a fund for the care and benefit of Bryson’s daughter, Alexis, who has Williams Syndrome.
