
A native of Chicago, Illinois and resident of Mobile for many years passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Karen was a longtime Master Seamstress in Mobile; she was known as "Ms. Mardi Gras" and well known for creating one of a kind gowns and robes for the Kings and Queens of Mardi Gras here in Mobile. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucien W. Thornton and a daughter, Karel Lee Thornton. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Carwie and a son, Kristopher M. Thornton both of Mobile, her grandchildren; Katie and Abbie Carwie and Zachery Thornton, also a sister, Mrs. Caryl Nixon of Livingston, Al and a brother, William Huck of St. Paul, MN, nieces, nephews and other relatives. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Pine Crest Funeral Home from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. As a tribute to "Ms. Mardi Gras" the family requests all attendees to wear bright and lively colors, nothing dark and drab.
