Dr. L Franklin Brown passed away on November 8, 2017, peacefully at home surrounded by family, after a long courageous battle with IPF. A native of Mobile, he graduated from McGill Institute in 1961; and went on to earn his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1968. Dr. Brown was a practicing veterinarian in Mobile for forty-three years.
He had a great love and compassion for animals, and treated them with great skill and patience. Dr. Brown was a mentor and teacher to generations of Veterinarians and employees. He strived to help lead young people towards the proper path to a successful life.
Dr. Brown was a member of several organizations including; Knights of Columbus, Council 3565 and 666, The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick (dubiously), The Rotary, Auburn Centennial Club, Selection committee for Auburn Veterinary school, and the AVMA, serving as president. Frank was a paramount member of one of Mobile’s best Mystic Societies since 1971 serving in many capacities, including President and King. He has received many awards and accolades throughout his life including being a key speaker at the Auburn University Veterinary Graduation.
Frank was a renowned adventurer, traveler, and story teller. Frank traveled extensively with his wife Jackie across the world. Making friends wherever he went. He was never deterred from an adventure whether it was a tent in Africa, with lions just outside; climbing the steps of Machu Picchu; a tree hut in Peru, with bats on the nightstand; Europe; Russia; or China. As long as he had an Auburn shirt on his back and Jackie’s hand in his, he would go anywhere, with such energy and zeal that no one could keep up.
He met his first love while still a teenager, Mrs. Amelia Bliss Brown “Jackie” whom he was married to for 53 years. A bond so close we may never see one to match it. His second love Auburn Football, and somewhere after that his three wonderful daughters and nine grandchildren. Amelia Brown Dute (Jeff) Amelia, Blakeley, Caroline, Jillian and Kelsea; Danielle Brown Sommer (David) Sean and Franklin; Julie Bliss Vann (Deed) Deed Jr, Aaron.
Frank will be missed by all those who knew him; his immense loving family and his numerous and wonderful life long friends. We will all miss his zest for life, for he was truly unique to us all. A teacher, a mentor, a friend. Most of all a loving and selfless father, grandfather and husband.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Radney Funeral Home 3155 Dauphin St., on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017. Services to be held Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 at 10:00am from St. Matthews Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be sent to the Auburn Football team (just kidding), The Auburn University School of Veterinarian Medicine.http://because.auburn.edu/VET or Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E.
