

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Paul and Edna Gay Jenkins and her husband of 56 years, LTC Thomas Dan McCrary, PhD (USA Retired). She is survived by her sister, Cornelia Jenkins Ward of Sedona, AZ; her sister-in-law, Lynn McCrary Ray, Mobile, AL; her sons, Thomas Dan (Karen Wentz) McCrary Jr., Shaker Heights, OH and Edward Judson (Lisa Van Otterloo) McCrary, Huntsville, AL; her grandsons Andrew Thomas (Marshall) Hill, Canton, OH; Daniel Judson (Virginia Seale) McCrary, Huntsville, AL; Walker Harrison McCrary, Nashville, TN; and her great-grandson, William Judson McCrary, Huntsville, AL; numerous nieces, nephews cousins and friends the world over.
Lanier was a member of the Beta Sigma Chi high school sorority, a graduate of Murphy High School and Stephens College. In 1954 she was formally introduced to society at the Camellia Ball in Mobile and maid of the Mardi Gras court in 1955.
After college Lanier moved to Washington, D.C to work for a Law Firm as a Bookkeeper. On June 4, 1957 Lanier married Dan at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. Together as part of military assignments, they traveled the world for the next 56 years living in France, Belgium and all over the United States. After over 25 moves, they returned to Mobile where Lanier enjoyed time with family, dear life long friends and “The Lunch Bunch”. She also enjoyed spending time at their second home near Waynesville, NC. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Mobile, AL and Spring Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home and Cemetery, on Friday, October 6, 2023 with visitation at 10:00 and funeral services at 11:00, followed by burial at Pine Crest Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy.
