Lee Matthew Laitala, Capt., USNR, Ret. – age 80, born in Appleton, WI, former resident of Hancock, MI, and recent resident of Mobile, AL passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011. Mr. Laitala was a veteran of the United States Navy, retiring from the Naval Reserve as a Captain after 35 years of service. He also retired from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management after many years of service. Mr. Laitala is survived by four children, Kathleen “Katie” Vaughan, Kristine Dillon (Bob), Karen Laitala, and Robert M. Laitala (Carrie); sister, Georgeane Taylor (Chuck); grandchildren, Joshua Dillon, Bill Dillon, and Rebecca Laitala; other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the Muscular Dystrophy Association (M.D.A.), 7011 Fulton Ct., Montgomery, AL 36117.
