Lewis Leonard Wilder, 95, died peacefully at SAAD Hospice Facility on July 30, 2021. Born in Laurel, MS to Sam A., and Annie Jane Wilson Wilder, he moved to Mobile at an early age. Lewis graduated from Murphy High School; attended the University of Alabama Extension, and graduated from LSU School of Banking. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was aboard the USS Shangri-La during “Operation Crossroads” (A-Bomb testing) at Bikini. Lewis started his banking career at the Merchants National Bank in 1942 and retired after 47 years as Senior Vice – President of First Alabama Bank. Lewis was very active in the Jaycees, serving in many leadership positions including President of the Mobile Azalea Trial and an organizing member of America's Junior Miss, Mobile Symphony Orchestra and the Joe Jefferson Players. He served on many other civic boards and was active in a number of civic organizations. He was a member of Dauphin Way Methodist Church. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ella W. Campbell; and brothers, Harold Wilson “Woodie” Wilder and Sam A. Wilder, Jr., He is survived by his wife, Nan Stuardi Wilder; stepdaughter, Kelly Collins Woodford; grandchildren, Thomas, Cecilia and Sarah Woodford; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
