

Mrs. Lily Lea Verneuille Pittman, age 89, born in Gunnison, Mississippi; a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the UAB Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Lily was the perfect example of a gracious southern lady who never missed the opportunity to pass along an act of kindness or compliment. Her life was a blessing, an inspiration to her family, and the source of so much joy. She was as nurturing as her roots in the Mississippi Delta soil that gives life to what sustains us. Her example of unwavering faith and devotion to her family will be the foundation for those she has left behind. Lily was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Cromwell Davis and Lily Lea Davis; her brother, Fred Davis; and her husbands, Joseph Ollinger Verneuille and the Honorable Judge Thomas Virgil Pittman; her great-granddaughter, Cohen Elizabeth Harkins; and her daughter, Kay Pittman Gordy.She is survived by her sons, Joe “Chipper” Ollinger Verneuille (Jane), Walter Davis Verneuille (Regina), Lea Davis Verneuille (James), and W. Lee Pittman (Becky); her son-in-law, Allen Gordy; grandchildren, Ashley Verneuille Mitchell (Robert), Shannon Verneuille Harkins (Matt), Davis Verneuille, Drew Verneuille, Dr. Jason Pittman (Jasna), Jenny Pittman Cooney (Michael), Clay Pittman (Amanda), Logan Pittman, Allison Thursby (Vann), Allison Gordy, Karen Gordy Dille (John), and Bert Gordy, Jr. (Caryl). "A very special thank you to Lily's devoted caregiver, Ramonica Burpo." A visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, Mobile, AL, Wednesday, August 12, from 5 pm to 8 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be the following day on Thursday, August 13, at 12 noon at First Baptist Church, 806 Government Street, followed by a private graveside gathering in Pine Crest Cemetery. The family will also receive friends at the church beginning at 11 am prior to services. Memorial gifts may be made to support her lifelong church home, First Baptist Church of Mobile, 806 Government Street, Mobile, AL 36602. Pallbearers will be David Wittendorfer, Jim Alston, Steve Weldon, Earl Fox, Clay Pittman, Logan Pittman, Davis Verneuille and Drew Verneuille.
