

Jane Sheffield passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Springhill Memorial Hospital. She was born in Basin, Alabama, lived briefly in Arkansas, and spent most of her life in Mobile, Alabama. She graduated from Semmes High School in 1956. She received an associate degree in nursing from Mobile College in 1974. Mrs. Sheffield worked as a registered nurse at Mobile Infirmary from 1975 until her retirement in 1996. Mrs. Sheffield was preceded in death by her parents, Horace G. and Bessie Blackstock Moody, and by her sister, Mary E. Mock. Mrs. Sheffield is survived by her husband of 55 years, Lindsey N. Sheffield, Sr.; a son, Lindsey N. Sheffield, Jr. (Angie); and a daughter, Susan S. Powers (Tom). She was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Matthew Sheffield, Kathleen Powers, Mary Beth Sheffield, Margie Powers, and Claire Powers. Mrs. Sheffield’s siblings include: Joe Moody (Stephanie); Judy Mabrey; Rachel Ward (Larry); and Debbie Cobb. Mrs. Sheffield was a member of Orchard Baptist Church, and served as a Sunday school teacher and in other capacities until prevented by illness. She lived her life according to Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
