Lydia Rowell died peacefully September 3, 2019 in Tuscaloosa at Hospice of West Alabama. Lydia was born in Danville, Virginia and lived most of her life in Mobile, Alabama. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College and moved to Mobile after marrying William (Billy) Rowell in 1951.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Gardner, Jr., her beloved husband, Billy Rowell, and one sister; Doots.
Left to cherish Lydia’s beautiful memories will be her son, Gardner Rowell and wife Carolyn, one granddaughter, Emily Brown and husband Dan, one grandson, Taylor Rowell, many extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Lydia was a longtime member of Government Street Presbyterian Church. She also was active in the Colonial Dames of America and the As You Like It Club. Lydia was an accomplished bridge player and in her younger days an avid tennis player. She enjoyed fishing in her spare time during her younger years.
A memorial service will be Friday, September 6, 2019, 11:00 AM at Government Street Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the library.
