Margaret Beatty Tarbox, 90, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 in Mobile, Alabama. Margaret was born to Ashley Hampton Beatty and Lois Stiles Beatty on July 27, 1930 in Mobile. She grew up in Mobile, and attended the Convent of Visitation. Margaret met her husband George Hardy Tarbox, Sr., and after two years of dating and a year-long engagement, they spent 62 wonderful years in marriage. Together they raised a beautiful family, including sons, Mike Beatty (Linda), and George Jr. (Debbie); grandchildren, Steve, Nicole, James, Travis, Justin, and Logan; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Gage, Stephen, Ashley, and Henry; as well as helping raise their nephews, Sal, Vic, and Buddy. While Margaret made a home in New York State – where they relocated for George’s position at IBM – Mobile was always her true home. She was a realtor broker in New York and Mobile, as well as a homemaker, mother, and wife. Margaret and George loved to travel, and were blessed with opportunities to visit the Holy Land, Europe, and Australia. They also took several vacations with their children and grandchildren, such as trips to George’s family in Napoli, NY, to see his “Yankee side of the family.” Margaret and George were members of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church for over three decades. She was also a member of a Mystic Society in Mobile. Margaret cherished a variety of family heirlooms and considered herself somewhat of a steward and historian. She loved sharing stories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Margaret also enjoyed painting and playing bridge in her earlier days. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a child of God.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George; father, Ashley H. Beatty; mother, Lois Stiles Beatty; sister, Celia B. Sharp; and brother, Ashley H. Beatty II.
A private graveside service was held in Pine Crest Cemetery. Memorials may be made in honor of Margaret B. Tarbox to the Society of St. Stephen, c\o Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, 1507 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36604.
