Marian “Dede” Haughton Talley, 73, native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, known to many friends and family as "Dede", peacefully passed away on the morning of February 8th, 2024 with loving family by her side. Mrs. Talley is preceded in death by her parents, W. Elsworth Haughton, Dorothy Calloway Haughton, brothers, Thomas "Tommy" Elsworth Haughton, and William "Billy" Baker Haughton. Also preceded, by former spouse and dear friend, Gerald C. Talley Sr.
Marian was a graduate of Davidson High School and the University of South Alabama. She was a Phi Gamma Chi Sorority sister and alumni. She worked at Providence School of Nursing. Then went on to work at Providence Hospital as purchasing manager and retired after 34 years of service. She was a very involved active member of Christ United Church in Mobile. She was a member of Mobile Bridge Center where she enjoyed playing bridge. She was also an active member of Sisterhood of Survivors, a gynecologic cancer survivor support group. Marian was a known seamstress, talented artist, and jewelry maker. She loved spending her time painting, drawing, and hand making beautiful intricate jewelry with different metals, stones, gems, and beads. She also loved gardening and kept her yard beautifully maintained. Above all she loved spending quality time with her children and being "Nonnie" to her grandchildren. She was an extraordinary, strong, courageous, encouraging, faithful woman. She truly embodied the best qualities that extended beyond her immediate family: unconditional love, being present, kindness, and generosity. She was a friend to everyone and made many lifelong friendships that she cherished.
Mrs. Talley is survived by her daughter Andrea Talley Phelps (Robert), son, Christopher John Talley (Michelle), stepson, Gerald "Jerry" Colbert Talley Jr., stepdaughter, Debra Leigh "Lee Lee" Herrin, and much like a son, step grandson, Jeremiah John Talley. She is also survived by her grandchildren Rylee Marie Talley, Lily Ann Talley, Rex Peyton Talley, step great grandchildren Samiah Jaleigh Talley, Jordan Pierre Talley, and Joshua Gerald Talley, and nephew, Thomas J. "TJ" Haughton (Jessie). She leaves behind many more loving step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, great nephews, a great niece, her beloved loyal canine companion, Yogi, and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Christ United Church Monday, February 19, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for visitation, with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. The family welcomes close friends to attend the earlier graveside service at Magnolia Cemetery that morning at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Christ United Church, 6101 Grelot Rd., Mobile, AL, 36609.
