Born in Mobile on July 13, 1941 to Charles James and Julia Kryger Schjott, she graduated from Murphy High School in 1959. After attending Judson College in Marion, Alabama for one year, she returned to Mobile to work as a secretary at Albright and Wood Drugstore. Marian met James Vincent Jackson while both worked at Albright and Wood. The two were wed on January 4, 1964. Marian then became a homemaker raising 3 children: James Vincent, Jr., Charles Clay, and Julie Carol.
Marian returned to work later in life serving as administrative assistant in the Art, Music, and Theatre Departments at the University of Mobile. She also served as the box office manager for the Upper Room Dinner Theatre at the University of Mobile. “Miss Marian“ was loved by the students she worked with during her 15 years at the school.
Marian was an active member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church for 53 years. Previously, Marian played organ at Ann Street and Calvary Baptist Churches. Marian served as an officer for both the Murphy High School Alumni Association and the Greater Mobile Chapter of the Judson College Alumnae Association. She was also a member of the Board of Advisors for Judson College for 8 years. She was State Mother Advisor of the Alabama Grand Assembly of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in 2008-2009.
Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Schjott, and sister, Carol Schjott, Marian was survived by her husband of 60 years, James V. Jackson, Sr., 2 brothers: Jimmy (Shirley) Schjott and Charles (Deborah) Schjott, 3 children: Vince (Shannon) Jackson, Clay (Jenny) Jackson, and Julie (Chris) Short, 5 grandsons: Jay (Tifanee) Jackson, Sean Short, Jackson Short, Blake Jackson, and Patrick Jackson, 1 granddaughter: Bobbye Jackson, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cottage Hill Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Cottage Hill Baptist Church, 4255 Cottage Hill Road, Mobile, AL 36609, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
