Marie Mahler Alexander, 98, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Marie was a native of Mobile and the eldest child of Charles and Mabel Mahler on February 18, 1920. Marie was a Mawmaw to everybody and a second mother to her siblings. She was the most loving, caring, and extraordinary of women, with arms always outstretched for hugs. She enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with them. Above all, Marie was a woman of her faith. She was such a wonderful soul that there aren’t enough words to embody her. She is loved by all, and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Albert Alexander; her parents, Charles and Mabel Mahler; and one granddaughter, Lesley Alexander.
Marie is survived by her three children, Ed Alexander, Cheryl McDonald, and Monica Smith (David); six grand-children, Gwyn Tillman, Tony Cottrell (Loretta), Kent Cottrell, Dustin Smith (Kelly), Leigh Derbyshire (Chris), and Christine Alexander; eight great-grandchildren, Jared Tillman, Blake Tillman, Trent Tillman, Kimber Smith, Landon Derbyshire, Madison Derbyshire, Felecia Cottrell, Blakley Cottrell; one sister, Claudia “Susie” DeLorme; two brothers, Marshall Dudley Mahler (Joanne) and Charles Mahler; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne, AL on Monday, March 26, 2018, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Elois Jones, Marie’s caregiver for over three years.
Pallbearers will include Dustin Smith, Trent Tillman, Jared Tillman, Blake Tillman, Tom Long, and Steve Holman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
