Marie Gayle Lindsey departed this life on August 23, 2026. This was the same day she gave life to her firstborn in 1960. A longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama and a recent resident of Birmingham, Alabama, Mrs. Lindsey was born in St. Petersburg, Florida on July 29, 1938. She attended and obtained her diploma in nursing from St. Margaret’s School of Nursing in Montgomery, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Ennis Lee Lindsey; parents, Willis Paul Woolley, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Harris Woolley of St. Petersburg, FL; three sisters and three brothers; and one lifelong friend, Shirley Jean Long Bryars.
Mrs. Lindsey is survived by five devoted and loving daughters: Lynis Marie Baugher of Birmingham, AL, Patricia Elizabeth Lindsey of Birmingham, AL, Debra Lynn Benefield (Ricky) of Shelby, AL, Laurie Gayle Lindsey of Mobile, AL, and Marjorie Shirley Neese (Jesse) of Mobile, AL; eight grandchildren: Crystal Marie Peppers Swetland (Aaron) of Hendersonville, TN, Maxwell Adam Cook of Irondale, AL, Jonathan Lee Benefield (Christina) of Murfreesboro, TN, Lindsey Marie Benefield Wilbur (Doug) of Murfreesboro, TN, Jessica Ann Neese Ainsley (Conner) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Andrew Jackson Neese “AJ” (Scarlett), Abigayle Dianne Canterbury, and Susan Marie Neese – all of Mobile, AL; four great-grandchildren: George Benefield, Madelynn Benefield, Skylar Wilbur, and Joseph Wilbur; one sister, Linda Woolley Wood of Plano, TX; as well as other cherished family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m. in the chapel with interment in Pine Crest Cemetery.
