Marion Schnell Kelly passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama. She was 97. Marion was born to John M. Schnell and Eunice Green Schnell on December 10, 1927, in Mobile, Alabama. She was known as “Sissy” to everyone who loved her – and everyone loved her. Marion never complained and always had the need for purpose. She was a force to be reckoned with – strong willed and kind-hearted – but never had a problem dressing you down when you needed it. Marion never took life too seriously and enjoyed having a good time. She loved staying active, and could be seen many times driving her tractor around “the farm” (the family’s hunting camp). She loved tending her garden, especially her orchids, and had a love of flowers. Marion always had a positive outlook and a Helper’s Heart. She spent Wednesday nights at her church, helping to set things up for the service.
Marion was fiercely devoted to her family and always made time for them. She joined the love of her life, Charles Kelly, who she lost 26 years ago. Her loved ones take peace in the fact that they are together again, probably talking right now, about all the crazy things that have happened in their time apart.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kelly; parents; and one brother, John M. Schnell, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Kelly May (James); son, Charles A. Kelly, Jr., “Chuck”; grandchildren Kelly May Brown (Matthew), James H. May (Rachel), Charles A. Kelly, III, “Chaz” and Hannah Kelly; one great-grandchild, James Ryan May; her best friend, Sammie Kirk; as well as other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Marion will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a graveside service in Pine Crest Cemetery immediately following.
