Mark Corneil Mostellar, Jr. (“McNeil”) was born in Mobile, Alabama on May 12, 2005 and tragically passed away on July 1, 2026. McNeil is survived by his loving parents, Mark and Hilton Mostellar, his two younger sisters, Ellie and Rhea Mostellar, his paternal grandmother Rhea Mostellar (and his late grandfather James C. Mostellar), maternal grandparents, who are the late Randy Billingsley and Elizabeth Billingsley, his Uncles and Aunts—Jimmy Mostellar, David and Sally Mostellar, Ben and Robin Mostellar, and Jake and Kelly Billingsley, Carrie Whitman O'Connor, Talty O'Connor, and John Whitman.
McNeil had an infectious smile, brightened every room, exuded kindness and joy to all who knew him, and he had a real zest for life, which was unmatched and contagious. He adored his parents, Mark and Hilton, and his two younger sisters, Ellie and Rhea. McNeil graduated from UMS-Wright Preparatory School in the class of 2024, where he was an outstanding student and played with distinction on the football, lacrosse, and track teams. McNeil was truly a beloved son, brother, friend and teammate and he lived an exemplary life marked by outward displays of kindness, a love for life, friends, and family.
Following graduation at UMS, McNeil attended the University of Alabama, where he pursued a degree in business. McNeil was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and he cherished the relationships he built therein. Known for his positive attitude, genuine character, and infectious smile, McNeil left a lasting impact on classmates, fraternity brothers, and faculty alike.
In a touching tribute honoring McNeil’s life, the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club summed up McNeil’s life in a truly touching and poignant way, stating:
“His passing leaves a space that cannot be filled. The docks will feel quieter, the stories will carry a little more meaning, and every sunrise and sunset over the Gulf will remind us of someone who truly loved being there. McNeil, you were a legend to this community and deeply loved by so many. Thank you for every conversation, every laugh, every memory, and for the legacy you leave behind. Your kindness, your passion and your love for this sport will continue to live on through all of us.”
McNeil had a deep love for the outdoors, an undeniable passion for fishing, and a genuine appreciation for the people and traditions that make this community so special. Whether he was in the woods or offshore, McNeil lived an exemplary life grounded in that which means most: faith, family, friends, and recreational experiences in the woods and on the water.
McNeil’s passing is Earth’s loss and Heaven’s gain, leaving a void that cannot be filled, but we are all better people for having known him. McNeil’s passing is proof that the brightest stars are unfortunately the first to dim.
A memorial mass will be celebrated from St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the Mostellar family requests that donations in McNeil’s honor be made to Spring Hill College earmarked for building and grounds, Catholic Charities, or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered at www.pinecrestfuneralhome.com.
