Mark Ford Swanson – Born at Mobile Infirmary in Mobile, Alabama on February 18, 1957. Died unexpectedly in Ocean Springs, Mississippi on July 3, 2020. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Swanson, his father, Harold Swanson, and his brother, Gary Swanson. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Jennifer Swanson, his sister, Kris Hawkins, his brother, Mike Mincey, and his loving nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, in-laws, pets, and friends. In his 63 years, Mark lived life to the fullest and will be missed by the many people he encountered along the way. A United States Army veteran, Mark proudly served fifteen years with the Alabama National Guard 20th Special Forces in Mobile, Alabama. During his military career Mark trained as 18C Special Forces Engineer, 18D Special Forces Medic, served as Jumpmaster, graduated Officer’s Candidate School at the Alabama Military Academy where he afterward served as a TAC Officer, served on active duty in Desert Storm, participated in numerous overseas missions with his unit, and finished his military career with the rank of Captain. In civilian life Mark achieved tremendous personal satisfaction and success as a salesman, business owner, insurance adjuster, and custom builder. He and Jennifer have worked together and completed numerous construction projects as Mark Swanson Builders, Inc. since 1998. Mark’s professional titles and awards included President of the Home Builders Association of Metro Mobile, Builder of the Year, Southern Living Builder, Certified Green Professional, and Graduate Certified Builder. As much as he loved to work, Mark loved to play, whether surfing, snow skiing, or golfing. Most who knew him feel like they have lost their best friend. We will miss his laugh, his confidence, his encouragement, and his fearlessness. Rest in peace buddy, until we meet again.
Visitation for Mark will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West.
