On Wednesday, January 1, the world lost a wonderful man, and Heaven gained an exceptional angel. Marvin, known to his friends as "Cotton," was born on June 16, 1938, and has lived in Mobile all his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James Allen and Syble Rogillio Allen; his sisters, Ethel Clausen and Clarice Wojohn and his brother Jesse J. Allen, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy Hayes Allen; daughter, Lisa Allen; grandson, Nicholas Allen Vrocher and sister, Marcia (Jack) Vickrey. Marvin graduated from Murphy High School and has maintained a close friendship with fellow graduates Cecil Tucker, James Cool and Victor Clark, who have been his friends since they were children. Marvin worked for the Caterpillar dealership for twenty-five years and the John Deere dealership for twenty-one years. He was well-known and respected in the heavy equipment industry. Marvin was an active member of Tanner Williams United Methodist Church and served on the Nominating and Ground Maintenance Committees. He enjoyed cutting the grass on his John Deere lawn mower. He was a member of The Seekers Sunday School Class. Marvin rode motorcycles from the age of fourteen. His favorite pastime was riding with the Mobile Bay Harley Owners Group. The only thing he loved more than his Harley was his Harley friends. In life, he rode in the "Angel Ride;" now, he is riding with the angels. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Tanner Williams United Methodist Church, 1550 Grand Bay Wilmer Rd N, Mobile, AL 36608. Visitation will precede the service from 9:30 until the service at 11:00.
