

surrounded by her family. Bron was born on September 9, 1931 in Dillon, SC to the late John
Shepherd and Blanche Bryant Hulon.
She graduated from Lake View High School and earned a BS in Music Education from the
University of South Alabama and a MA and AA in Administration from the University of
Alabama.
Bron had 35 years in education touching the lives of countless students. She was a music
and choral teacher at Vigor High School and B.C. Rain. She also taught 4th grade at Kate
Shepard Elementary and Marketing and Distributive Education at Satsuma High School. She
then transitioned from the classroom to a Vocational Instructional Placement Specialist with
MCPSS.
Bron was a member of Sweet Adelines International for over 60 years where she directed the
Mobile Chorus for 30 years. She also served as a member of the International Board of
Directors, International Music Faculty, and was instrumental in starting choruses in many
other countries including Germany, Sweden, Finland, Australia and New Zealand. In 1971
she won the International Quartet Championship “Queens of Harmony” with her beloved
quartet Bron's Tones with whom she maintained a friendship with until her passing.
She received the award for outstanding Alumni from the University of South Alabama in 1971
and also received a special proclamation and appreciation from the USO and State
Department.
Bron also loved and sang many years with her Bella sisters in Mobile’s all women Bella Voce Chorus.
Bron was a long-time member of Spring Hill Presbyterian church in Mobile.
Bron was preceded in death by her sister, Myrle Evans and brother, Ernest Hulon. Bron is
survived by her sister, Teresa Gillespie (Tee), Mt. Airy, NC, 4 children, Michael Dixon, Fran
Moor (Jack), Denise Duke, and Bronte' Dixon. She will be missed by her grandchildren who
affectionately called her Mor-Mor, Lisa Duke, Kyle Moor and Jacquelyn Moor and 6 great-
grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made in Bron's name to the Music
Department of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, 10 Westminster Way, Mobile, AL 36608.
A memorial service honoring Bron will be held at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
