I was a new kid at Frankfort High, and then Mary Evelyn came a bit later....also a new kid. I remember her as being very bright, and also a lovely Southern lady with a delightful yet confidant demeanor. I know she was loved and remembered by all who knew her, and I count myself as one who was indeed, fortunate to have shared the years with her at Frankfort High. My deepest sympathies go out to her family and friends. She will be missed, and always remembered.

So very saddened to learn of Mary Evelyn's passing. We were both members of the Class of 1966 at Transylvania University. Sincere sympathies to the family. Rest in peace my fellow classmate.

I was first introduced to the Dowells in 2008 and over the last 10 years, I have had the pleasure of many wonderful times spent in their company. I remember so many special occasion gatherings hosted by Dave and Mary in their lovely home and aboard their boat Champagne Taste, sailing on Mobile Bay. When I first moved to the South, Mary made me feel so welcome in their home. Mary was one of the most kind, generous and gracious ladies I have ever met. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten

I was first introduced to Mary back in 2004, through my acquaintance with her husband Dave.

As a yankee boy, I felt like I was being introduced to a proper southern lady, as Mary Evelyn was always gracious and charming.

Through the years I always felt welcome in their home, and would try to remember to bring or send her favorite “York peppermint patties” for her when I went by.

She was a good friend and will be missed.
