Mary Joyce Redding Hunt Baker – Born July 3, 1932, in Florence, AL, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, March 28, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Viola and Stinson Hunt; her husband, James C. Baker; her granddaughter, Mary Allison Baker; and her beloved pet companion, Shadow, who passed away just minutes before her. Survivors include six children, James (Susan) Baker, William (Nancy) Baker, Sherry Baker McIntosh, Paul (Janet) Baker, Vicki (Jeff) Sims, and Ann (Jason) Walker; three sisters, Nancy Stout, Linda Smithson, both of North Alabama and Fran (Frank) Lovelace of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Jack (Janice) Hunt of North Alabama; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Raised in Florence, AL, she married and moved to Mobile in 1951. Mrs. Baker was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, and served as secretary of the family business, Baker Vending. After a long day of housework and yardwork, she rewarded herself by enjoying a cocktail by her pool. She always had a wonderful tan, complimenting her sparkling blue eyes. She loved to travel and have fun – wherever she went. She loved listening to “the oldies” and was an avid fan of George Jones, Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, and Eddie Arnold. Special thanks go to the E. A. Roberts Alzheimer’s Center and Sheila, Vallorie, Barbara, Pam, and Sam of Alacare Hospice of Mobile for their wonderful loving care. Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in Pine Crest Cemetery with Rev. Charles Fail officiating.
