

Mary Sue was born in Lamison, Alabama, to Willie Gray Dukes and Effie Grey Huggins Dukes on January 31, 1940. Mary Sue attended Woodcock Elementary School, Barton Academy, and graduated from Murphy High School in 1958. She married James Earle Younce on June 27,1964. They welcomed their only child, Kimberly Grey Younce, on March 29, 1970.
Mary Sue worked as a telephone operator and an administrative assistant at Southern Bell for ten years. During Kimberly’s childhood, Mary Sue spent countless volunteer hours as the Room Mother for her daughter’s school. She also spent many years teaching Sunday School. After Kimberly grew up, Mary Sue was a bridal consultant for Minton’s Formal Wear. She was also later a caregiver for both of her parents until they passed away.
Mary Sue is preceded in death by her mother, Effie Gray Huggins Dukes, her father, Willie Grey Dukes, and her son-in-law, Alan Lyndale Schooley, MD.
Mary Sue is survived by her husband, James Earle Younce; her daughter, Kimberly Younce Schooley; and her grandchildren, Lauren Grey Schooley and Mark James Schooley.
Pallbearers will be Brian Allan Campbell, CDR USN (Ret.); Benny Clyde Johnston; Jason Martin Rollins; John Michael Rollins; Mark James Schooley; and Joseph Ray Thompson.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the medical team on the 6th floor of USA Providence Hospital; the staff at Saad’s Hospice on the 11th floor at Providence; and the staff and members of the Woodridge Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alan Schooley Family Medicine Scholarship, which was founded to honor Mary Sue’s son-in-law, who passed away in 2024. Public visitation will be at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Noon with a service to follow at 1:00 PM in the Radney Chapel. Mary Sue will be interred at the Pinecrest Cemetery Mausoleum privately with family.
