
Mavis Flournoy Jones, 80, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023 in Mobile, Alabama. Mavis was born in Elmore County, Alabama on January 11, 1943 to William Howell Flournoy and Lonnie Mae Flournoy. She worked at Service Merchandise in the jewelry department for over a decade – which was the perfect job for her and her avid love for jewelry. Mavis was a fabulous cook, a gracious host, and truly lived by the motto, “If you can’t say something nice, you shouldn’t say anything at all.” She absolutely adored her dog, Izzy. Mavis was a very devoted and loving wife and mother. She was truly a sweet soul, and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Harris Jones, Sr.; and her parents.
Mavis is survived by her daughter, Cindy Jones Smith (Robert Lee Smith); son, Charles Harris Jones, Jr. (Stephanie); brother, William Terry Flournoy; sister, Judith Warren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished family and friends.
The family would like to extend the utmost appreciation to Mavis’ caregivers, Debra Goff, Wendy Mosley, and Jeanette Goff for their unwavering support and care throughout the years.
Visitation for Mavis will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, Alabama Friday, January 20, 2023 with a graveside in Pine Crest Cemetery immediately following.
