Mercedes was born in Bogota, Colombia on January 20, 1943. She attended Catholic school until graduation and later moved to the United States, living in California, where she took classes to learn English and worked for the Bank of America. Mercedes then moved to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida and work in the athletic department. While there, she met and fell in love with David Adkins, an assistant track coach for the Gators. Mercedes and David were married in Mobile, where they later settled to raise their daughter, Allison Adkins Lott. Once Allison moved to Auburn for college, David and Mercedes fulfilled a lifelong dream of living on the water in Orange Beach, AL. They loved every day spent together in their home on Ole River until David’s passing in 2011. Mercedes soon returned to Mobile to be closer to her family and enjoyed several years of attending her grandsons’ sporting and school events. Joe and David Lott were her pride and joy and brought much happiness to her life.
