Michael Hyde Diehl age 71, passed away peacefully Friday, April 14, 2023 after a brief illness at Saad Retreat Hospice. He is preceded in death by his parents Aubrey F. Diehl and Rena H. Diehl and his son-in-law Landon R. Glaze. He is survived by his loving wife Cindy J. Diehl of Gulf Shores, his children MaryHelen Diehl of Crescent Springs, KY, M. Hudson Diehl of Reno, Nevada, Hannah K. Diehl (Landon) of Gulf Shores, M. Clawson Diehl of Gulf Shores and Sister Gina (Tom) D. Perkins of Buford, GA as well as many family members.
Mike is a graduate of McGill Institute class of 1969 and the University of South Alabama class of 1973 where he was a charter member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE). He later received 2 Master Degrees in Criminal Justice and Public Administration at Eastern Kentucky University and studied at The University of Kentucky.
Before returning to Alabama he was Senior Vice President at U.S. Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio 1988-2001and recently retired from Truist Bank. Mike was very active in his community and church volunteering many hours of time, energy and leadership. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Gulf Shores Utilities since 2013, is a Past President of The University of South Alabama Alumni Association and a member of the SAE Alumni Association.
He volunteered to head up the yearly Catholic Charities Drive at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores and several other ministries.
Mike loved living on the Gulf Coast, his family near and far, fishing, golfing, traveling, his dogs, SAE Alumni Association, and his USA Jaguars attending football games both local and away.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 28, 2023 at Our Lady of Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores. The Family will receive friends for visitation at the church at 9:00 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at The Catholic Cemetery in Mobile approximately at 12:30- 1:00 p.m. because of the distance from church to cemetery. Friends are welcome to join us at either or both places.
