He leaves his wife of 47 years, Loraine (Locks) Hickman; his sister, Edith Milan (Jimmy); his children Joseph Hickman (Sandy) Michelle Weber (Aaron) and Christopher Hickman (Erika); five grandchildren; and many close friends.
Born in Mobile, Alabama, and raised in Waverly, Tennessee, the son of Robert “Bob” and Margaret “Marney” (Klaas) Hickman and brother to Robert “Bobby” Hickman, Jr., he graduated from Waverly Central High School and later earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Tennessee Nashville.
After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Michael moved to Mobile where he resided until his death. Michael enjoyed a 30-year career at the University of South Alabama University Hospital. A lover of the water, Michael was an avid shrimper in Mobile Bay and owner of several shrimp boats over the years. Later in life, Michael enjoyed boating and teaching his kids to water ski on Dog River as a member of the Alba Club. On any given fall Saturday, you could find Michael cheering on his beloved University of Tennessee Volunteer football team. In retirement, Michael enjoyed visiting with his kids and grandchildren and going on cruises with his wife, Lori.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the National Kidney Foundation.
Sincere gratitude to the staff at Mobile Infirmary and UAB Medicine for their continual care of Michael over the years.
The family will be holding services at a later date in Tennessee!
