

The third child of Otis and Mary Margaret Wittner, Mike was a lifelong resident of Mobile. He was born Monday, August 27, 1945. He was a 1963 graduate of Murphy High School where he excelled at baseball. He attended Troy University where he continued his baseball career.
Mike graduated from Troy University with a Bachelors Degree in Education and Spanish. He traveled to Mexico and lived in a local community to immerse himself in the culture and language. Upon moving back to Mobile, he began a teaching career at Scarborough and Hillsdale Middle Schools where he was a PE coach and Spanish teacher. After many years in education, he ventured into the world of sales where he excelled with Climate Masters of Spanish Fort, Alabama.
In his time away from work and even after retiring, he was an avid golfer and won many tournaments and awards. In 2012, he placed 3rd in the The Alabama Golf Association’s State Senior Amateur tournament. Mike also played softball for many years and formed lifelong friendships through his love of the game.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Otis and Mary Margaret Wittner, his older brother and best friend, Carl Wittner, sister-in-law, Barbara Alford Wittner and brother-in-law, Don Cargill.
Mike is survived by his sister, Margaret Cargill of Dawsonville, GA, his niece Leah Wittner Bond (Mark) of Alabaster, AL; nieces Wendy Wittner Stewart (Joe) of Marietta, GA and Cathy Cargill Edwards (Troy) of Gainesville, GA, great nieces Mary Margaret Bond, Brooke Edwards and Blythe Friddell, and great nephews Will and Jack Stewart, longtime friend, Janice Beebe and many extended family that he loved dearly.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held on April 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Luke 4:18 Fellowship Church, in Mobile, Alabama, with a visitation at 10:00 AM in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mike’s memory to one of the following organizations: Luke 4:18 Fellowship or the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
