Michel Heidke Shain, born May 19, 1952 in Oaklawn, Illinois, died peacefully July 24, 2020 in Mobile, AL. Michel was a good Catholic girl growing up in Oaklawn. She graduated from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in 1969, received her Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana in 1973, Master of Science in Microbiology at the University of Alabama in 1977, Doctor of Medicine, AOA, from the USA College of Medicine in 1981.
On July 31, 1982, she married the love of her life (her own words) Alan Shain. She did her residency, including Chief Resident in Pathology at USA College of Medicine, with Board Certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 1987. Michel accepted a position with Pathology Laboratory Associates at Spring Hill Memorial Hospital where she worked the last 31 years- a second home for her.
Michel was tall, beautiful and intelligent. She loved puzzles and the challenges of being a pathologist. She was practiced in the art of simple conversation-sometimes for hours. A beer, talking with her friends and family on the phone and her cats made her happy.
Michel is preceded in death by her father, Elroy Heidke and mother, Florita Laughlin Heidke. She is survived by her husband, Alan, son, Hunter (Alana), daughter, Laura (Joe) and grandson, Tucker. She is also survived by her brother Geoff and sisters Pat and Amy.
A memorial funeral service for family and friends will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church will be held Friday, July 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
