Mildred Sharpless Wooley

Mildred S. Wooley – a 92 year-old resident of Mobile, was called home to be with the Lord and her family on Monday, February 4, 2013. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and attended College Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Wooley and her husband worked at Brookley Field transferring to Warner Robins, GA and retiring in 1965, returned to Mobile in 1979. Never one to have idle hands, she loved crocheting and China painting and made close to 200 porcelain dolls. The dolls were all hand painted by her and every stitch of clothing handmade. Each represents a legacy passed along to her children, great-grandchildren, and friends to be cherished for generations to come. A wonderful cook even early on, she won a 4-H Contest at Ernest Ward High School in Walnut Hill, FL. She was known for (her family favorites, fried chicken and chicken and dumplins, but known best by others for) her famous “extra-tall” sour cream pound cake, of which even her daughters didn’t know the secret until recently when she finally “fessed up.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse L. Wooley; daughter-in-law, Barbara Wooley; and son-in-law, Clay Brown. Mrs Wooley is survived by her children, Larry Wooley, Frances Bedford (Mike), and Sharon Brown; grandchildren, Heath Wooley (Kelly), Jeff Bedford (Karen), Dane Wooley (Kathy), Kipp Bedford (Cheryl), Cole Brown (Jennifer), Jessica Geisendaffer (Jeff), and Jenifer Otto (Dean); and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom love her. Funeral services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. The wake will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
