Montez Petty Mallon Carl, age 95, of Guntersville, Alabama passed away on Friday November 1, 2019. Montez was born May 4, 1924 in Monroe County, Alabama to Maggie Petty and Howard Petty. A native of Frisco City, AL, Montez went on to settle in Mobile where she met and married Matt Mallon. Montez worked at Brookley AFB assembling aircraft parts and later worked as an airlines reservationist and as a dental assistant. After her children were born, Montez, an excellent seamstress, began sewing for friends, family, and did alterations for several dress shops in Mobile.
Montez was an active member of Little Flower Church and regular volunteer for church and school activities. In later years, Montez and George Carl, members of St. Pius X church, enjoyed traveling and were active members of the Riese club.
After the death of her second husband, George Carl, Montez relocated to Albertville and Guntersville in North Alabama to live with her daughter’s family.
Montez is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne (Mike) Riley; son, Matt Lee Mallon; step-daughter, Jeri (Al) Lawrence; granddaughters, Shannon Jones (Zack) and Heather Mallon; great-grandson, Matt Mallon; great-granddaughter, Rainbow Jones; sisters, Kathryn Petty Huie and Bobby Petty Gibson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Montez was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Maggie Petty; husbands, Matthew J. Mallon and George J. Carl; sisters, Captola Petty Barton, Agnes Petty Brown, Ruth Petty Stokes, and Jo Petty Krause; brothers, James Petty and Andrew Petty; and step-son, Skip Carl.
A graveside service for Montez will occur Friday, November 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Cemetery 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy Mobile, Alabama 36605, followed by interment. Deacon Ed Connick will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Flower Church, St. Pius X Church, or Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, 408 Martling Road, Albertville, AL 35951.
