It is with great sadness that the family of Nellie Cecile Barnes Odom announces her passing on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the age of 99. She died peacefully in her home in Mobile, Alabama surrounded by family. A native to Mobile, she was born on February 22, 1919 the oldest of three children.
She retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, where she worked in the Engineering Division as a type setter/graphic arts and a licensed Real Estate Broker. She was a member of the Corps of Engineers Wives Club and served as president for one year, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society of Little Flower Parish, and the Mobile Doubloon Society, where she also served as president. Most of all, Cecile loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and, of course, Mardi Gras. She could be found dancing the night away at the balls or fighting for loot at the parades. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and reading was her passion.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Odom, Sr., daughter, Jacquelin Odom, two great-grandchildren: Porter S. Buschell and Penelope M. Buschell, mother, Nellie Barnes, father, John J. Barnes Sr., brother, John J. Barnes Jr., and sister, Shirley Barnes. She is survived by her three children: Cecile O. Clark (Wayne), Clyde E. Odom, Jr. (Cathy), and Janelle O. Parrillo (Mark) and eight grandchildren: Marylyn Clark Buschell (Joe), Lowell Clark, Lindsey Clark Robertson (Nick), Jenny Odom Sutton (Joe), Justin Odom (Nina), Caley Odom Bittner (Aaron), Mark Daniel Parrillo (Sarah), and Jeremy Parrillo (Michelle) and six great-grandchildren: Porter Buschell, Christopher Robertson, Nicholas Robertson, Matthew Parrillo, Noah Parrillo, Patrick Parrillo, Josh Odom, Jake Odom, Reese Bittner, and Landon Bittner.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Little Flower Catholic Church and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am at Little Flower Catholic Church on Friday, June 29, 2018. Interment will immediately follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
