Obituary of Nicki Evelyn (Walker) MacDonald
Nicki Evelyn Walker MacDonald was born in Shelby Mississippi on February 23, 1939 to Nicholas Lafayette Walker and Mary Evelyn Williams Walker. Nicki graduated from Murah High School in Jackson, Mississippi before going on to graduate from The University of Mississippi in 1963 where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorrority. After graduating from Ole Miss, Nicki moved to Memphis where she briefly taught Elementary School. As she has told so many, she wanted to move “near the beach”, so she decided on Mobile where she began teaching at University Military School. In Mobile, she met the only true love of her life Charles Stanton MacDonald Jr. Together they would have the three loves of their lives, Christopher Stanton MacDonald, Nicholas Walker MacDonald, and Charles Stanton MacDonald III. On October 28th 1976 Christopher passed away from a brain tumor. She says it took her about a year before she could get out of bed, but once she did her lifelong mission became helping bereaved parents wherever, however, and whenever she could. She was a founding member of the local chapter of Compassionate Friends where she served on the Board for many years. In 1992 Nicki received her Masters in Grief Counseling and would begin an almost two decade career in grief counselling. She would help families throughout the Gulf Coast work thorough all of the curve balls that life on this earth has to offer. It has been said that if she charged you at all, it was not the going rate. Nicki was an active and devoted member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church where she was involved in everything from the Administrative Board, Meals on Wheels, and the Choir…just to name a few. However, her favorite assignment was teaching the 6th grade Confirmation Class from 1980-1990. Nicki loved her boys, the beach, books, kids, cats, dogs, flowers, chocolates, Ole Miss Football, the New Testament, Dauphin Way UMC, The Shakespeare Club, The Symphony, Old Hymns, Nat King Cole, Elvis, Jackson, Memphis, Anywhere on I-70 in Colorado, London, and Gardenias. Visitation for Nicki will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, with a funeral service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Thank you to all of the staff and helpers at The Brennity, Crowne Healthcare, Knollwood, Atria, Mobile Infirmary, and Westminster Village. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Dauphin Way United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
