
Norma Clinton Kopper-smith - A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010, in a local hospital at the age of 82. Norma attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Bishop Toolen High School where she was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1946. She attended Webster Grove College in St. Louis, MO. Her secretarial career began at Southern Bell. In 1956, Norma became the secretary at St. Mary's Catholic School and later served Most Reverend Thomas J. Toolen, D.D., Most Reverend John L. May, D.D. and Most Reverend Oscar Hugh Lipscomb, D.D., Ph.D., Archbishop Emeritus of Mobile as secretary, retiring at the age of 70. After her retirement, she volunteered as a reader at WHIL Radio Reading Service. Norma was a faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Van Cleave Koppersmith, Sr.; her granddaughter, Kaitlin Marie Overstreet; and three brothers. Survivors include three children, Karen Kopper-smith, Van Cleave (Ginger) Koppersmith, Jr., and Dr. Daniel Leonce (Ginger) Koppersmith; her brother, Donald Hollis (Mary Lou) Clinton, Sr. of California; three grandchildren, Nicole (Brad) Dean, Van Cleave Koppersmith, III and Katherine Elizabeth Kopper-smith; two great-grand-children, Cecelia Frances Dean and Ellis Eugene Dean; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 25, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 2605 Spring Hill Ave., Mobile, AL 36607.
