Oliver Geisenheimer, 82, of Bay Minette, Alabama, peacefully entered into his heavenly home on the morning of April 26, 2018, after a lengthy struggle to regain his failing health. Oliver was born to the late Reinhold and Eva Steadman Geisenheimer on February 7, 1936. He and his siblings, grew up in Mobile. As a child, he spent his spare time doing things like cutting up newspapers and selling them for confetti at Mobile Mardi Gras, climbing trees his mother specifically told him not to, and generally spreading mischief wherever he went.
As a young man, Oliver served in the United States Air Force, spending time at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas; Lowery AFB in Denver, Colorado; and Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington. He also served in the United States Marine Reserves. After being discharged from the military, he briefly worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. He eventually found a career as a pipe fitter and worked at Courtaulds Fibers until he retired. Along the way he made some lifelong friends and together they enjoyed some of Oliver’s favorite pastimes such as hunting, fishing and weekends out on the water.
One September evening while cruising the streets of Mobile with a friend, he passed a beautiful girl in a car, also cruising the streets, and immediately knew he wanted to marry that girl. Oliver married the love of his life on March 8, 1963. That love would hold strong and sure for 55 years and beyond. They could be heard arguing on a daily basis, but most of those arguments were about who loved who the most.
Oliver’s life revolved around his family, his God, and his animals. He served faithfully in his church in almost every lay capacity possible – Sunday school teacher, clerk, men’s fellowship, pastor’s council, custodian, and chili cook-off winner record holder. If the Lord allows animals in Heaven, Oliver has a mansion full and has been reunited with his beloved, Suzy, OG, Buford, Cody, and Cady. Oliver is survived by his wife Patsy Lois Etheridge Geisenheimer; his daughters, Patsy Ruth Dunnam, Beverly Dianne DeMouy, and Mary Elizabeth Haymon; his sons-in-law, David Dunnam and Perry Haymon; his grandchildren, Ryan (Khristina) Dunnam, Joshua (Kelly) Dunnam, Eva (John Daniel) Byrd, Chandler DeMouy, Olivia (Alex) Sims, Amelia DeMouy, Katrina Haymon, Dean Haymon, Patrick Haymon, and Zella Haymon; his great-grandchildren, Kahlan, Kaleb, Kathryn, Clay, Abigail, and Annleigh. He is also survived by his sisters, Della Land and Marie (James) Blocker, his brother, Reinhold Paul Geisenheimer, a host of extended friends and family, and will be sorely missed by Mickey, the dog.
Oliver was known for his wit, his smile, and that certain light in his eye. He could throw a zinger out there so fast, you had to be really quick to keep up. Being the father of three daughters, he became a master at ribbons and bows as each Sunday morning his daughters would line up saying, “Tie my bow Daddy”. He was also known as the most loving husband and rock-solid father any family has ever known and there are quite a few children who know him as Granddaddy, aka “The Greatest Man On Earth”. His absence has left an emptiness so vast that it will only be filled on that great reunion day. He was his family’s hero, and they were his sunshine, and heaven is sweeter because he is there.
Services will be held on Sunday, April 29th at Cross Roads Church of God, 10777 State Highway 138, Bay Minette, AL 36507. The family will receive visitors beginning at 3:00pm with services beginning at 4:00 pm and burial immediately following at Cross Roads Church of God Cemetery. His grandsons, Ryan Dunnam, Joshua Dunnam, Chandler DeMouy, Dean Haymon, Patrick Haymon, John Daniel Byrd, and Alex Sims have the honor of being his pallbearers. Funeral services coordinated by Radney Funeral Home. The family gladly accepts prayers, condolences and shared memories.
