Ouida Martin Shows passed away peacefully, December 18th, 2019 while sleeping in her daughter, Tanya’s home in Mobile. Born in Mobile, on January 23, 1939, Ouida was 80 years young. She was a native of Millry, Alabama and graduated from Washington County High School and continued her education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she was a Dixie Darling and a featured baton twirler. Ouida was a true southern belle, of the old tradition, loving everything southern from the gentile manners to the delicious fried oysters. She was a beloved teacher for 34 years at Theodore High School. Most remember her for her class, charm, quick wit and love of a good time. Ouida loved all animals and especially her constant sidekick, Anna, (a yorkie.) She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Shows Harrison of Mobile, AL, one brother, Charles Bush Martin (Judy) of Nashville, TN, and one sister, Sarah Martin Miller of Grove Hill, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Charles Martin and Sadie Bush Martin, her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Shows. A small memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21st from 5 to 7pm at the Radney funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your chosen “no kill” animal shelter.
