It is with profound and sudden sadness, yet comforted by our faith in the resurrection, the news of the falling asleep of our sister in Christ, Ourania (Rania) Tziotis. Rania passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Rania Tziotis, born to surviving father Stavros and late mother, Rita Tziotis on January 26,1966, in Mobile, Alabama. Her life was a vivid mosaic of joy, love, dedication to the Lord, and philotimo (community).
She was raised in a close-knit family alongside her brother, Andreas (Andy), with whom she shared a loving upbringing in a Greek household filled with so much life. After spending a short time in Greece, the Tziotis family eventually returned to Mobile, where they settled and began their life anew in Mobile.
Rania was a beacon of love and faith, raising her four children with a steadfast devotion to God and family. Her children were the center of her life, and she supported them with boundless pride and enthusiasm. An active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Mobile, AL, Rania was involved with the Daughters of Penelope and also stayed connected to the St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Tampa, FL, as a visiting Daughter of Penelope. Rania took great joy in her Greek heritage, eagerly volunteering at the Greek Festival to share her culture and traditions with the community. Her presence brought light and joy to those around her, and her faith was the foundation of her life. She held Orthodox Christian practices close to her heart, with the liturgy and Eucharist being central to her spiritual journey.
When many think of Rania, they remember her as a fighter—full of life, a passionate Harley Davidson enthusiast, and a two-time survivor of AML Leukemia. Rania turned her battle with leukemia into a ministry, using her journey to uplift and inspire others. She encouraged everyone to "keep the faith" and believed that "everything happens for a reason; you have the opportunity to use it to give God the glory"—and she did exactly that. Her resilience and unwavering faith touched countless lives. Even to the end, Rania lived life to the fullest, always seeking to put a smile on everyone's face. She expressed deep gratitude for the exceptional care she received at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL, which extended her life and enabled her to continue uplifting others until her final days.
As Rania’s spirit remains with us, she would encourage us to stay strong through the hardest times, reminding us, "God won’t give you more than you can handle," and offering comfort with her favorite words: "This too shall pass."
Rania is lovingly remembered by her father, Stavros, her brother, Andreas, and her cherished children (oldest to youngest): Brent, Zoe, Lex, and Markella. Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Penelope House, in Rania’s memory. Her legacy of love, compassion, and community will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of many.
Rania Tziotis will be profoundly missed but her spirit, joy, and light will continue to guide and comfort those she loved. May her memory be eternal!
Visitation for Rania will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, located at 50 S Ann Street, Mobile, Alabama 36604, with a service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
