Pearl Marie Webster, born on July 23, 1927, fell asleep in death on January 29, 2021 at the age of 93. Mrs. Webster, a native of Camden, Ala., traveled to Mobile in 1947 to enter nursing school at Providence Hospital. Shortly thereafter, she met her future husband, James Daniel "J.D." Webster, Sr. (also deceased). They were married on May 3, 1947. Marie spent the early years of her marriage in Birmingham, Ala. The couple subsequently became longtime residents of Mobile, Alabama where J.D. worked as a carpenter at various shipyards.
After becoming a licensed practical nurse, Marie was employed for some time at the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. In the 1970s, she worked at Hillhaven Convalescent Center on Spring Hill Avenue. Over the years, she used her nursing talents to ease the suffering of family, neighbors, and friends – often during their final days.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed visiting Camden, Ala. as well as the old country homestead where she was born in the Grampian Hills of Wilcox County Alabama. Two of Mrs. Webster’s favorite activities were knitting and crocheting. She made many afghans, scarves, sweaters, and mittens for friends and family.
Baptized in 1947, she ultimately became a member of the Mobile South Bay Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Marie supported her husband J.D. in his Christian ministry and found pleasure in studying the Bible with others. She shared the hope of the Apostle Paul who stated at Acts 24:15 “…that there is going to be a resurrection….” This wonderful event will be brought about by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his Father our Almighty God Jehovah (John 5:28, 29 & John 11:25). Many will be restored to life under peaceful conditions here on the “…new earth…” in which “…righteousness is to dwell….” as stated at 2 Peter 3:13. Future life in this new earth was Marie’s personal hope.
Marie is survived by two sons, James Daniel Webster, Jr. and wife Vickie; William Benson Webster and wife Leta Gay; two daughters, Constance Marie Webster-Schwab; Margaret Ann Gordon and husband Terry, all of Mobile; as well as by multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway. Burial, accompanied by a brief graveside service, will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Serenity Memorial Gardens on Old Pascagoula Road.
