Peggy May Ganoe passed away on August 15, at age 88, surrounded by family in Dothan, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Blake Ganoe, parents, Robert Roy May and Nell Tarver May, and two brothers, Walter Donald May and Robert Earl May.
She is survived by her brother, Roy Daniel May, and sister, Sandy Hoodless; children, Debra Stickney Carlisle (Jerry), Kenneth Jay Stickney (LaJuana), and Rebecca Stickney Jones (Terry); her grandchildren, Clay Stewart (Audra), Felicia Stewart (Christy), Stephanie Carlisle, Robby Carlisle, Sara Carlisle, Elaina Weekley (Dillon), and Angela McAlister; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was born on April 2, 1934 in Washington County, and raised in Mobile, AL. She married Jay T. Stickney in 1955. The couple had three children and lived in several states during Jay’s sixteen-year service in the U.S. Air Force. Peggy returned home in 1966, raised her family in Mobile, and later married Gene Ganoe.
Before Gene’s death in late 2014, the Ganoes were active in Fulton Road Baptist Church, and Peggy’s faith was an ongoing source of strength after his passing and her subsequent move to her daughter’s home in Dothan.
She was a hard worker, holding secretarial, administrative and management positions in higher education, retail, and property management. But her favorite job was assisting others; from helping children in her community and struggling friends and neighbors, to caregiving for young grandchildren and ailing parents, Peggy (“Nana”) always showed up to provide time, love, support, and sometimes money, to those around her.
Life brought Nana many challenges and hardships, but her family remembers her best for her zest for life, unique style, slightly mischievous smile, love of music and dancing, and her deep, unconditional love and compassion for friends and family.
Visitation will be Monday, August 22, 2022 from 10am-11am followed by a funeral service at 11am, burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery.
