Miss Peggy, as she was affectionately known to all who knew her, was born on May 30, 1933, in Greene County MS to Floyd L Ball and Marie Slay Ball. Peggy had two sisters, Helene (Rex) Marie Ball Roberts and Julia (Charles) Floyette Ball Freeman. Helene was like a mother to her, and Peggy was like a mother to Judi. They were a close-knit, loving family.
On June 24, 1952, Peggy married Jack Spurlock and they raised two daughters, Regina (Jimmy) Lynn Spurlock Kirkland and Robin (Wayne) Suzette Spurlock Knight. Peggy and Jack were married for 31 years until Jack’s passing in 1983.
Miss Peggy retired from WALA-TV on May 30, 2003. She worked there as an accountant for over 35 years. She dearly loved Channel 10 as it was called while she was there. And the people of Channel 10 dearly loved Miss Peggy. Miss Peggy’s other love was her church, Pathway Church. She was the Sunday School secretary for 8 years, starting in October of 1986. Members fondly remember Miss Peggy for her faithfulness to be standing in her spot and taking care of the Sunday School roll and offerings.
Peggy’s main love was for her family and especially for those grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clint Kirkland was the first grandchild for Miss Peggy and the first great-grandchild for her parents. Then came Michelle (Jeff) Kirkland Straub, Kristen (Shawn) Knight Stephens, Nikki (Sam Curtis) Kirkland Bufkin, Amanda (Toma) Knight Back, and Micah (Stephen) Kirkland Havard. Her great-grandchildren include Abby and Bryce Kirkland; Zoey, Skylar, and Dakota Back; Ryan and Hope Curtis; and Madison and Hannah Havard.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Marie Ball, her sister Helene and her husband Rex Roberts, and Charles Freeman. She is survived by the rest of her family and a special high school friend James Pope.
A family service will be held at the cemetery in Avera, MS. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
