Perry was born in Brooksville, MS, but moved to Mobile and graduated from Murphy High School as one of the first 12th grade graduating classes. He lived in the same house for 70 years. It was in this house that he and his first wife, Veola, raised their 5 children and many of the neighborhood children.
In 1975, Perry and his best friend, Bubba, started A&P Pest Control. It continues to be a family business with his son-in-law and grandson carrying the tradition and still servicing some of the same customer families.
Perry was an avid sports “aficionado” which led to his many hours of armchair coaching not only for his favorite teams, the Alabama Crimson Tide, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Braves but even athletic events of family, whom he loved dearly. Along with team sports, Perry loved to hunt and, in his earlier years, when the grandkids were younger, took them fishing.
Perry was an active member of the P.L. Wilson detachment, and a retired Marine reserve from 1955 – 1975.
Perry is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elsie Vaughn; his 6 siblings; son, Perry Jr (BoBo), the mother of his children and first wife, Veola; and his second wife, Cuc Thi.
Perry is survived by his son, William “Billy” (Susan) Vaughn, daughter, Carol (Charles) Gurganus, daughter, Joyce Boatman, son, Stewart Vaughn, stepsons, Quoc Le (Kim) and Hung Le (Nancy) along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great children and a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held at Pinecrest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway, Monday, May 12, 2025, from 10am – 11am. Funeral services will be from 11am – 12pm in the chapel. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to McKimmie Place or the charity of your choice in Perry’s name.
