
He was a retired businessman and a member of the Springhill Avenue Temple. He graduated from Simon Gratz High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1936, at the age of 17. Mr. Laden served aboard ships including the USS San Francisco where he sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge during its grand opening in 1937. He served in Iceland where he was one of the few Marines to have earned the European Theater Ribbon. He also received his South Pacific Ribbon as a combat veteran during World War II. He saw action in the Marshall Island, Eniwetok, and Guam. He was a member of the 22d Marines, achieved the rank of First Lieutenant, and was honorably discharged in September, 1945.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Maisel Laden. Survivors include his wife, Jean Mabile; daughter, Ellen Laden (Maury) Zivitz; son, Gilbert (Enid) Laden; brother, Milton (Eleanor) Laden; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Milton and Sylvia Maisel. Mr. Laden is also survived by Jean's children, Becky (Mitch) Lord, Woody (Sue) Harrison and Tammy Harrison; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Springhill Avenue Temple Cemetery.
