Rachel Jean Martin, age 49, died tragically in an auto accident on Thursday January 16th in Mobile, Alabama.

Rachel was born November 14, 1970 in Chicago Heights, IL to Cherry Dawn Gaines (Simpson) and Randall George Martin. Rachel grew up in Crete, IL and attended Trinity Lutheran School. She always had a flair for the dramatic and was lovingly referred to as Sarah Bernhardt. As a teenager Rachel moved to Denton, TX with her mother and stepfather, Larry Simpson, where she graduated from Denton High School. Rachel was a talented floral designer and worked at Michaels, MJ, Designs in Texas.

Rachel moved to New Windsor, IL and married Jim Streeter in August 1994. She and Jim later divorced, but remained good friends.

Rachel gave birth to her beloved daughter, Chloe Corrine Hartshorn on February 20, 2000 in Galesburg, IL with Sean Hartshorn. Rachel treasured Chloe and cherished every moment with her. She was especially proud of Chloe and loved her role as her mother.

In 2007 Rachel and Chloe moved to Mobile, AL. Rachel worked at The Bakery Café from 2007-2012. She was the Accounting Manager for Cirrus Systems since 2012, where she was highly respected professionally and loved by her co-workers.

Rachel embraced living in Mobile and enjoyed attending Mardi Gras events with her many friends. Rachel loved dressing up and was especially fond of Halloween and scary movies.

Rachel was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, and friend, loved by all. Just like Rachel’s beautiful green eyes lit up her face, she lit up everyone’s lives. She was fun loving, with an infectious laugh and was the life of the party. Rachel loved music and never shied away from singing and dancing with her family and friends. Rachel loved with all her heart and would do anything to help anyone.

Rachel is survived by her beloved daughter, Chloe Hartshorn; her mother Cherry Simpson; father Randall Martin; stepmother Janet Martin; siblings Ryan, Regan, Jeffrey, John, Taylor, and Brent; plus her many nephews, nieces, aunts, and cousins. All of these she loved and touched deeply. Rachel is proceeded in death by her ex-husband, Jim Streeter and dear stepfather, Larry Simpson.

We find comfort in Rachel’s Confirmation Bible verse, Lamentations 3:22-26, Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;

A visitation for Rachel will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 1500 Snow Rd, Mobile, Alabama 36695, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 p.m.

I’m lost for words, but want you to know how sorry and sad I am for your loss. I remember Creed and Rachel playing together and having so much fun in the back yard at one of the Gaines Appartments so so many years ago, maybe as many as 46 year's. It was the first time I met the family, Rachel would act like Creed was her baby and he’d go right along with it. Very loving and caring. Not much but brings a smile to my face when I think of her. You will be missed sweet Racheal.

I have an abundance of beautiful, joyful and loving memories that I will cherish forever. Everyday I think of you and remember all the good times we had. You were the best Aunt Rachie to all my children and you will remain in their hearts forever. I know you are ok now and happy in heaven with others we have lost. My husband, Chris Smith, and I adored Rachel. We have so many fond memories with her. A few of my favorite memories are the time Rachel and the girls from the Bakery thew me my bachelorette party at Hard Rock Cafe and our wedding day where Rachel made sure the reception at the Bakery went fun and smooth. One of the most memorable was when Rachel and Chloe went camping at KOA with us in Lilian, Al. Rachel was always a bright light sharing joy, laughter, hope and love everywhere she went. She will be greatly missed. Our love and prayers are with all of Rachel's family and friends.

I have thousands of beautiful memories of my granddaughter, Rachel, in my heart, she was always such a joy. When I think of Rachel, my heart is full of joy and thankfulness to God above, for giving me beautiful memories to have forever. I know she’s home in heaven with her Lord and others in our family. I am so heartbroken about Rachel’s passing . I have a lot of memories with Rachel , we became very close friends through both of our ex- husbands ( Jim and Mark were best friends ). From the day I met Rachel we hit it off , her smile and laughter , love for life , love for her friends and family was so contagious. Not a day goes by that I haven’t thought of her and miss her dearly. I had the pleasure of being at the hospital the day she had Chloe , who she loved so much and was so very proud of. Fly high my sweet friend , love you so very much!

I will always remember my daughter Rachel. She was so sweet and kind hearted, from little on. She loved curious George and Tunafish, but didn't like raisins. She loved her baby brother Ryan so much she picked him up right I'd brought him home. She didn't drop him. She also dearly love her baby sister Regan.
She loved to watch Little House on the Prairie with me. We'd both cry and laugh at the same times.
She took wonderful care of her beloved stepfather Larry. Her pet name for him was LarBear. Larry is with Rachel in Heaven and so many others who loved her dearly. Just as we do.
I will miss my baby girl so very much. I thank God he let us have her for 49 years before He took her home.
