I met Ralph on my first day of employment with the then Alabama Highway Department (later Alabama Department of Transportation) on July 31, 1974. I worked with him beginning that day at a Project Engineer's Field Office where he began teaching me the requirements of my position involving all aspects of highway construction, especially inspection and documentation. Sometimes we were on projects in uncomfortable situations (aggravating contractors, weather conditions, difficult construction issues, etc.) but Ralph would always find something about any situation to laugh at and make the rest of us laugh. But that did not prevent him from being consistently serious about his work ethics. He left a void that was not filled when he retired from the department.

I remember Ralph at Alabama Dept.of Transportation-our former workplace-as being a great employee & such an easy-going person-all around great guy-last time I saw him was at an estate sale-was so good to see a retiree from work-prayers going out to family at this time of sorrow.
