Richard George Ivy, passed away December 3, 2021, at the age of 71. He was born on December 11, 1949 in Mobile, AL to Ray Alton and Aletha Viola Ivy. Rick was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He married his best friend, Rebecca Susan Anderson, on August 30, 1975.
Known as “Ricky” to family members, they were always the most important thing in his life. He strived to be the protector and provider for his wife, daughters, and granddaughters, who he affectionately called “his girls.”
Christianity has always been a part of Rick’s life. He always stayed committed to a life of leading by example. This meant a life of compassion, honesty, generosity, commitment, empathy, and dedication.
Rick stepped up and joined the Marine Corps at 18 during the Vietnam era. He was shot and severely wounded in 1969, awarding him the Purple Heart Medal. However, he stayed close to his Marine brothers and sisters. He was active in the P.L. Wilson Detachment of the Marine Corps League, the Purple Heart Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the American Legion. Rick also was an associate of the Women Marines Association and the
Kilo 3/7 65-70 Organization.
Rick began working at William Henry Contracting after his military discharge. He retired from construction after 20 years. However, carpentry always remained his hobby. Immediately following his first retirement, he began a career at the United States Postal Service, working there for over 20 years, to retire in 2017. Retirement only meant more time for family and volunteering for Rick. He remained extremely active until his stroke in March 2020.
Rick is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Michael Ray Ivy, Douglas (Eddie) Ivy, sister Patricia Ann Ivy. He is the loving father of Rachael Ivy Kramer and husband Thomas, Corinne Ivy Lorge and husband Toby. He is the proud “Poppy” of Emily Nelson, Mickie Lorge, Laura Nelson, Susan Lorge, and Becca Lorge. He is the brother of Lester (Buddy) Ivy. He also leaves behind several wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and his aunt Gloria Dean.
