Rita + Bill Gump were close friends with my parents. Billy and I enjoyed playing together as kids. Their family was always a joy to be around and I always looked forward to our visits. My prayers are for the comfort of the family to know Rita was loved by all.

Bill, Rita Jane, Renee and all of the Gump family,

As Leo Buscaglia once said, “I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.”

Aunt Rita will be sweetly remembered by the many lives she touched over her long life. I'll never forget a hilarious day of crabbing with her, many past Mardi Gras parades and balls, and the way she kept her home so immaculately beautiful whether it was on Pillen or Mohawk Street, or at her final home address. Among my fond memories are long ago summer Sundays shared down the bay with Bomboom, Daddy Fred, my mother Ann, my siblings, and the Gump clan. We can be sure Uncle Bill's lovely “Miss Rita” has a grand reception committee standing by for her at the Heavenly gates.

Sadly, I cannot make the trip to Mobile to join in her funeral Mass, but you all are in my thoughts and prayers, as you mourn the loss of your dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mama G was such a wonder and joy to be around. I feel so blessed that I married into her family. I was able to spend almost 20 years as her other granddaughter. We loved her and will miss her very much.
