
Robert M. Knott, Sr. – Born May 11, 1918, in Belzoni, MS, a resident of Mobile for over 44 years, and a current resident of Van Cleave, MS, died Friday, August 19, 2011, in a local hospital. Mr. Knott was a U.S. Army WWII veteran serving in North Africa, Normandy and the Battle of Bulge. He earned a Purple Heart medal and a Bronze Star medal. Following the war, he worked for the U.S. Civil Service at Brookley Field and retired after 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years, Alma Weatherly Knott; his son, Robert M. (Mary Lou) Knott, Jr.; his daughter, Barbara Sue (Tim) Gillispie; his sister, Sally Eckles; four grandchildren, Robert Michael (Amy) Knott, Lori Ann (Drew) Musa, Eric M. Gillispie, and Ryan Gillispie; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Hunter, Allyson, Mary Beth, Brandon, Meagan, and Caleb; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at 12 Noon.
