Craig was born in Mobile, Alabama on December 1, 1954. He graduated from Shaw High School in 1972, and thereafter attended both The University of Alabama and the University of South Alabama, pursuing an interest in history. After college, Craig began working at Alabama Farm Bureau Insurance (now, ALFA Insurance), where he would work for the next 34 years. It was there that he met his wife, Robin. After retiring in 2013, Craig and Robin divided their time between Alabama and Virginia to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons. Being a grandfather came naturally to Craig; of all the jobs and titles he held in life, "Grandy" was the one he treasured most.
Craig was a competitive athlete, gifted coach, and avid sports fan. He helped develop a youth soccer program at the Chandler YMCA and enjoyed coaching his daughter's tee-ball and soccer teams throughout the years, as well as regularly attending his grandson's soccer games. He loved to share his passion and knowledge of sports and competitive spirit with others. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, painting, hunting with his Boykin spaniels, and supporting the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Craig was predeceased by his parents, Robert Bascom Street and Annette Shoemaker Street and his brother, Clifford G. Street. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Robin Reeder Street of Mobile, Alabama, his daughter Shellie (Davis) Street Taylor of Norfolk, Virginia, grandsons Robert Gates Taylor and Edward Bascom Taylor of Norfolk, Virginia, nephews Mark (Terry) Street of Eatonton, Georgia and Shane (Erin) Street of Birmingham, Alabama, mother-in-law Ruth Sission Reed of Montgomery, Alabama, other relatives and countless friends. Craig was loved deeply by those who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 10 am, followed by a short funeral service at 11 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 6101 Grelot Road, Mobile, AL 36609.
