Robert "Bob" Glenwood Trehern, age 100, of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. Bob was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He graduated from Moss Point High School in 1943. He married his highschool sweetheart, Hazel Graff, on Christmas morning, 1945 in San Diego, California where he was stationed with the Navy. After the end of WWII, they moved to Kreole, Mississippi. He went to work for International Paper Company in Moss Point, Mississippi. In 1959, he transferred to the Mobile mill until his retirement in 1985 which led to a 34 year career.
On Friday, June 19, 1959, he moved his family to Chickasaw, Alabama two days later they joined the Chickasaw Methodist Church. The threads of Bob's life are woven lovingly and faithfully into the tapestry of the church. He was a dedicated member of the the church who has served in many, many capacities. He reactivated the Methodist Men's Club, becoming the first President. He was an MYF counselor, Sunday School Superintendent teacher and was on the following committees; Administrative Board, Pastor Parish Relations, Evangelism, Christian Vocations, Education, Visitation and many others. And sometimes, when the preacher wasn't there he even preached.
In many of his activities, he worked alongside with Hazel, his wife for 74 years. Especially important to them was their work as MYF Counselors. He enjoyed being a counselor at Blue Lake Methodist Camp. He was humbled and proud to be awarded the first Family of the Year Award in 1976-1977. In 1997, he received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award for the Mobile District.
Bob loved the outdoors, camping and the beach. He was dedicated to his family from roasting hot dogs in the back yard with the kids to getting together with his extended family for family reunions. After retirement, he and Hazel enjoyed traveling the country, seeing all the National Parks, and going on several cruises. The highlight of all their trips was a visit to the Holy Land with the church group.
Bob and Hazel have 3 children, Lanita Trehern, Brenda (Steve) Reynolds, and Larry (Carol) Trehern. He was very proud of his granddaughters; Julie Trehern Yocham, Megan Trehern (Dean) Courtney, and Stephanie Reynolds Gluch. He loved his 5 great grandchildren; Lennox and Robert Yocham, Roscoe Courtney, Arianna and Brendan Gluch.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 10 am at Chickasaw Methodist Church, 108 Lee Street , Chickasaw, Alabama 36611, followed by a funeral service at 11am. The Interment service will be at 2pm at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
